Ontario’s employment laws were created to protect employees. Unfortunately, some employers choose to violate these laws and terminate employees without providing them enough notice or payment in lieu of notice. It is also not uncommon for injured victims returning to work to be treated differently in the workplace, either by co-workers or employers. Injury victims are also discriminated against, harassed, denied leave, and paid substantially less than they’re owed.

What is a contingency fee and how does it work?
If we work together on a case, we will never ask for money up front. If we agree to take your case and you retain our Hamilton injury law firm, we will never ask you for money up front. There are no initial costs or fees for you to get your personal injury case started.
As with most Ontario personal injury law firms, you do not pay legal fees unless compensation is recovered in your case—either by settlement or trial. When we win your case, your fees at that point will be based upon a percentage of the compensation recovered on your behalf.
This means we do not charge you or send you a legal bill until and unless we win your case—this arrangement is typically called a “contingency fee,” meaning that the payment of your legal fees is contingent upon receiving a settlement or payment. The benefit of this type of fee arrangement is that it makes it possible for injured victims to hire a Hamilton personal injury lawyer without having to pay legal fees as the case is in progress. This gives everyone access to justice. Your exact fee terms will be spelled out precisely in your retainer agreement with Lalande & Company Lawyers. Remember: We are here to help you get on the road to recovery and back to living your life as quickly as possible—not to increase your financial stress.
We are Competitive with Contingency Fees
We are also proud to say that, unlike many firms, we are highly competitive with our fees. We are happy to discuss a financial arrangement prior to the commencement of your case. We understand that catastrophic injuries have devastating consequences that completely derail a victim’s life, social integration, work, family, and relationships – and the majority of the recovery should be put into the victim’s pocket, not the lawyers. If you have suffered a catastrophic injury, you will no doubt incur significant medical expenses because of long-term health aides, trauma, and care, assistive devices, medications, mental health issues related to major life changes, home and vehicle modifications, and so on. We understand that the cost of a serious injury extends far beyond the physical ramifications of being hurt. Our main goal is getting you the compensation you need and deserve. We want to help you recover stress-free, which means providing you with as much compensation from your settlement as possible—putting less toward your legal fees.
