Driver charged after crash that closed Hamilton’s Queen Street mountain access

The Hamilton Spectator has reported that a 21-year-old Scarborough man is facing a dangerous driving charge after police say he drove the wrong way on the Queen Street hill, losing control and hitting a hydro pole. The collision forced the closure of Beckett Drive all morning to repair work to downed wires. The Mountain access reopened before 12:30 p.m.

Speed was reportedly a factor in the collision. Hamilton police believe the 21-year-old, behind the wheel of a 2018 black Honda Civic was driving side-by-side with another car going southbound up the hill around 1 a.m. They say he was driving up the hill in the downbound lane when he lost control.  The closure caused traffic headaches in Hamilton. The busy Mountain access was expected to take some of the overflow from the planned closure of the downbound lanes of the Red Hill Valley Parkway.  The young man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
