Man with 4 times the legal limit was Toronto Police Officer

The Toronto Star has reported that has confirmed a man charged in Burlington after his car was clocked at 179 km/hr is an 18-year veteran of the Toronto Police force.

The story was first reported yesterday by the Spec on June 10th 2020 when OPP reported that they they had pulled over a driver on the 407 and Guelph Line, in mid-afternoon on Tuesday June 9, 2020. The man reportedly had nearly four times the legal limit of alcohol allowed in his system.

The officer,Constable Lionel Peters of Paris, Ont. already has a number of criminal charges pending from last year including extortion, after he allegedly threatened a civilian over an unpaid debt.  The man, , e. He is charged with impaired driving, excess blood alcohol and street racing. His vehicle has been impounded for seven days and his driver’s licence suspended for 90 days.

Toronto police has confirmed to the Star that Peters is a Toronto police officer, was off-duty at the time and was suspended with pay pending the outcome of previous criminal charges.
